Beauty and Self-Esteem
There is nothing like your child calling you beautiful to humble you for a moment. My three year old is outspoken, direct, and so sweet. So, when she takes my phone from me so she can take a picture and says “you’re beautiful, mommy”, I catch my breath.
Last night, we were sitting on the couch together, just playing and laughing and she wanted my phone. In the sweetest, most honest voice, she says “you’re beautiful, mommy”. It was so sweet and so pure. I asked her if she knows she’s beautiful too. She just laughed and said “yes” and took a bunch of pictures of me.
My self-esteem isn’t just about me anymore. Its also about teaching my two little girls how to love themselves; how to see their own beauty even when the world is telling them that they don’t meet certain expectations. If they see me as beautiful, but I criticize myself, then I’m challenging their own belief system. How will they know if they can trust what they think is beautiful when I’m questioning it?

Moms, its time for us to band together. We need to lift ourselves up because believing in ourselves inspires other to believe in themselves too. We need to tell people they’re beautiful. We need to spread love, and compliments and gratitude wherever we go. Don’t get you get a little warm fuzzy feeling when someone compliments you? I know I do!
In a world where we’re taught to hate ourselves and squeeze and pluck and be covered, but not too covered; be pretty, but not too pretty, we need to rise up together and tell society’s standards to “shove it”.
Loving ourselves is beautiful. Kindness is beautiful. Sharing our stories with each other is beautiful. Please share your beautiful story over on my Facebook Page or in the comments!
